Frequently Asked Questions

Billing & Policies

What are your fees?

Our fees are listed openly on our website and updated once a year. They remain well below standard medical aid rates, so if you have benefits, you can use them for reimbursement.

Do you claim from my medical aid?

We only claim on behalf of Discovery Medical Aid patients, as their system is straightforward and manageable for our admin capacity. For all other medical aids, we provide you with an invoice so you can claim back directly. In fact, most medical aids reimburse patients, and handling multiple claims on our side can create backlogs and payment delays.

What is your cancellation policy?

We reserve time especially for you. If you don’t cancel in time for us to offer that slot to someone else, it means lost income and missed opportunities for care. While we don’t enforce a strict late‑cancellation or no‑show fee, if you’d like to pay me for the time I set aside for you, I will gladly accept and appreciate it. The best way to support us is to give as much notice as possible when you need to reschedule.

How can I pay for my visit?

We have a card machine and we accept cash.

Do you offer discounts or packages?

The quick answer is no.

AHPCSA does not permit chiropractors (or any allied health professionals) to advertise or offer discounts, package deals, or prepaid treatment bundles.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first visit is about getting to know each other and understanding your main concern. We’ll go through an interview and examination, then create a treatment plan focused on your ideal outcome. If treatment is appropriate, it can begin during this first session.

Arrive about 5 minutes early if you’re unfamiliar with the location or parking.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the area we need to assess (e.g., shorts for a knee complaint).

Treatment Approaches

Can you tell me if you can help with my pain before I book?

Every patient’s situation is unique. I need to interview you and perform an examination before deciding whether your condition falls within my scope. If it isn’t appropriate for chiropractic care, I’ll refer you to the right professional.

Do you see children or babies?

We don’t treat babies. We’re happy to see children once they’re old enough to describe their problem themselves—usually from around 11 years and up.

How many sessions will I need?

At your first appointment, we’ll discuss a treatment plan together. This includes an estimate of how many sessions may be needed and a clear success measure—set by you. We also agree on a contingency plan: when to pause and reassess if things aren’t improving, and what the next step should be.

What kinds of treatments do you offer?

We provide a range of treatments, including diversified chiropractic adjustments for the spine and extremities, dry needling, and electro‑therapy options such as ultrasound and interferential current.

Can I contact you after my appointment?

Yes. Our booking system sends a check‑in message about 24 hours after your appointment. If you notice changes in your symptoms or have concerns, you can send a message to our WhatsApp number.

Can you guarantee results?

A favorable outcome can’t be guaranteed. What we can do is set a realistic and appropriate ideal outcome together, and then build a treatment plan around it.

Questions about Chiropractic

Is chiropractic treatment safe?

All treatment methods carry some risk, but my role is to ensure the benefits outweigh any potential downsides. Manual therapy can sometimes cause temporary aggravation of symptoms, but serious adverse events are very rare. I tailor care to your personality and lifestyle, and we put failsafe in place so you can feel confident your care is appropriate and safe.

Is chiropractic pseudoscience?

Chiropractic is not pseudoscience when practiced as evidence‑based musculoskeletal care. It is a regulated healthcare profession in South Africa under the AHPCSA, with chiropractors completing a six‑year university degree. The confusion comes from its historical origins and from some practitioners who still promote outdated, non‑scientific ideas

What does “alignment” mean?

In the early days of chiropractic, practitioners often spoke about ‘alignment’ as a way to explain what they were doing, the idea was that if the spine was out of place, putting it back ‘in line’ would restore health. That language was simple and easy to understand, but it doesn’t fully capture what we know today.

Modern research shows that spinal manipulation doesn’t literally ‘realign’ bones like puzzle pieces. Instead, adjustments improve how joints move, reduce stiffness, and influence how the nervous system processes pain. We now talk about restoring range of motion and modulating pain at the spinal level — concepts supported by evidence in biomechanics and neuroscience.

So while the word ‘alignment’ is part of chiropractic’s history, our current narrative is more informed: chiropractic care helps joints move better, muscles relax, and pain signals calm down, which allows you to function more comfortably

Is chiropractic just a treatment method?

No. Chiropractic is a healthcare profession, not a single technique. In the past, people often described chiropractic as ‘spinal alignment’ or joint manipulation, because that was the most visible part of what we do. But the profession has evolved.

Today, chiropractors are trained in the biopsychosocial model of health — which means we look at your condition from multiple angles:

  • Bio: how your joints, muscles, and nervous system are functioning.
  • Psycho: how pain and stress affect your thoughts, emotions, and coping strategies.
  • Social: how your work, lifestyle, and environment influence your health.

Joint manipulation (adjustments) is one tool we use, but it’s not the whole story. We also provide dry needling, electro‑therapy, exercise guidance, and lifestyle support. Our goal is to help you move better, reduce pain, and feel empowered to manage your health.

Appointments

How do I book an appointment, and will you run on time?

Our calendar is available online 24/7. Some slots aren’t visible online—if you can’t find a time that works, reach out and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. We pride ourselves on running on time, though occasionally a patient may need extra care.

What languages do you speak?

Consultations are available in Afrikaans and English.

Do I need to do anything before the appointment?

You’ll review and sign an informed consent form, which explains the risks and benefits of each treatment option.
